2009

Croeso (Welcome),

On the various pages can be found details of the club's history from 1978 and this season's fixtures, team selections, results, scorecards and match reports for LWCC in Division 2 of the AJ Sports Surrey Cricket League.

The Club has a very open recruitment policy and is always looking for new players especially of a Welsh background.  All are welcome to join the club the only qualification being an enthusiasm for cricket and socialising!  Please contact the club via the message board if you would like to find out more about this friendly well-run club.

Diolch yn fawr (Thank You)

CLUB NEWS :

London Welsh topped the Pitch Markings Table for Div. 2 in the 2008 season with an average marking of 4.29 out of 5.

The League have confirmed that David Sisam is the AJ Sports SCL Div. 2 Batsman of the Year for 2008 and he will be presented with the award at the League Presentation Dinner on 25th October. David won the Div. 4 award last season so to win it again after going up a Division and facing better attacks is a real achievement.

Llongyfarchiadau Dafydd/Congratulations David.

Ross on Wye CC have been badly affected by the flooding with the entire cricket ground being flooded out and as a result the LWCC tour match has been cancelled.  Please go to Ross on Wye Pictures to see pictures of the damage.

Bill Jenkins would like to thank all club members who contributed to his cards and presents of champagne, signed mini-bat, flowers and chocolates for Dorothy and himself for his 80th birhtday and their 50th wedding anniversary. "Everyone has been so kind " he says. Also good to see Derek Williams visiting from NZ at the recent game against Norwood Exiles.

Former player, John Morgan, is off to work in Abu Dhabi but hopes to come along to one of our games when he is at home. See John's name on the new feature,London Welsh CC Lists, on the Hall of Fame page. The All-Time team is controversial !

Sad news for the club as former player,Colin Davies, died in Kingston Hospital on Thursday, 3rd July, aged 56. Colin was from Prestatyn in North Wales and played for the club in the 1980's. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the early 1990's and his health deteriorated steadily over the years. There will be a minute's silence for Colin before the match on Saturday,5th July.  His funeral is to take place at Mortlake Crematorium on Friday,11th July at 4pm. R.I.P.

Former club captain,Terry Mackie, who moved back to Cardiff some years ago has retired from playing cricket. He latterly played for and captained Monkswood CC in Usk. Terry was instrumental in the reformation of LWCC in 1978 as a player and captain and introdued many new players to the club. He still supports us as a V-P. He has taken up the more genteel pursuit of tennis,. "Come on Tim" (Terry?)

Congratulations to Andy Wellings and his wife,Reneta. They had a baby girl, Nadia, who was born in New York on 18th May.  For picture of the All American girl please go to Photos and Videos.

Nick Mather is getting married to Monika next Saturday,7th June in Poland. Best wishes to you both for the big day from all at the club.

The new better quality club shirts with the London Welsh logo are now available from AJ Sports and will be distributed at the game on 7th June, at home to Reigate Priory, at a cost of just £5 each. No money, no shirt.

Jim Woolley knows of an umpire who wants to stand in some League games to gain experience after passing the Level 1 Umpires' examination. Please let the club have your views as to whether this would be a good idea and whether we should invite him to umpire in some of our games.

See the new feature "Past Captains " on the Hall of Fame page. This has been compiled from memory/guesswork and to make it as accurate as possible please send any corrections/additions through to Jim Cruise via the message board.

Please note the error in the League Handbook which records Andy Wellings and Nick Mather's League Double for 2007 under the Div. 5 Review instead of Div. 4.

Results of fixtures played during the 2008 season will be posted on the

Play Cricket website www.play-cricket.com and on the League website

www.surreycricketleague.com as well as on this website with the full

scorecard being displayed and a match report on each game played.

Jim Cruise has passed the first level,GL6, Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers exam after attending a course over two weekends at Caterham School in February.

Club Vice-President and Life Member, Derek Williams, who now lives in Auckland, N.Z., will be in the UK in July and August and has promised to come along to one of our fixtures during his stay. Also,President, Chairman and Life Member,Bill Jenkins, is 80 years old in August so we will organise a celebration for him during the season.

The amendments to the Rules and Playing Conditions for 2008 are :

A team (8 players ) not at the ground 15 mins before the scheduled start time will lose the toss;

A team not ready to begin the game by the scheduled start time will forfeit two batting overs for every 5 mins until they are ready to begin the game.

LWCC scored an average of 3.25 out of 5 for Sportmanship marks in 2007 coming last but one in the Sportsmanship table. The club scored 3.00 out of 5 for pitch markings.

Because of the new system for 2008 of entering the match details and results on the Play-Cricket website it is essential that the scorebook adds up as if not this will cause problems later, so accurate scoring is essential for 2008.

2008 will the club's 80th year of existence and it will be 30 years since the club was reformed by Derek Williams - see Club History.
